Mindful Schools Curriculum
Quotes from children who have taken Erin's classes:
"I like that Mindfulness is mobile; that you can use it any where, any time to help you."
"It calms you when you're angry."
"When I get upset, I go to my room and sit on my bed and I breathe in and out."
"When I was really stressed out on homework, I remembered, "Oh Mrs. Woo taught us mindfulness," and it really helped."
"I have used mindfulness to calm me down and it really helped. It made me feel more relaxed and I felt better."
"I feel happier in class and get more work done."
Mindful Schools created a mindfulness curriculum that exposes children to a range of mindfulness practices. Classes meet twice a week for 15 minutes at a time over the course of 8 weeks. Children love the classes and often come back to the next class with stories of how they are using mindfulness in their own lives to help them in a wide range of situations such as, coping with difficult feelings, falling asleep, and feeling more calm and relaxed. Research shows that mindfulness helps children in many areas of their lives, and most strongly in regulating emotions and developing the ability to concentrate.
Erin Woo is a Guiding Teacher in the Mindful Schools Teacher Training Program and completed the program herself in 2016. She has taught students in preschool, elementary, middle school, and high school. For more information about the program visit Mindful Schools.
